The first rule is simple: keep the Volkswagen Transporter a Volkswagen Transporter. Do not stretch the body, borrow glass from another van or mirror a right-hand-drive furniture pack into a left-hand-drive shell. Start from the exact T6.1 SWB/H1 LHD hard points and measure the vehicle in front of you.
Begin with the floor datum. Record the wheel-arch positions, sliding-door aperture, rear-quarter taper and the true distance between finished linings. Lay the visual floor boards fore to aft, like a yacht deck, because that direction follows the vehicle and makes measurement errors easier to spot. The decorative lines are not structural references: the rails are.
Run the aero rails longitudinally from front to rear. The rock-and-roll bed must travel on those rails without colliding with the kitchen, table, wheel arch or rear threshold. Test the full travel envelope in plan and elevation before drawing a cabinet. Add hand clearance at every pinch point and keep emergency exits usable in every normal seat position.
For an LHD van, design the living block as LHD from the beginning. Do not flip an RHD render at the last moment. Door positions, driver sight lines, utilities and traffic through the cabin all change the solution. Use the real tailgate or rear-door glass geometry in the visualisation; a side-window texture at the back immediately destroys credibility.
Only after the rail and bed envelope is frozen should the kitchen be divided into CNC panels. Use a labelled cutting layout with grain direction, edge-band notes, part numbers and waste zones. Prototype critical interfaces in low-cost sheet first. The best render is not the one with the most gloss—it is the one that still fits when the van arrives in the workshop.
Before final manufacture, perform a physical mock-up. Sit in the travelling seats, open every door and drawer, slide the bed through its full range, and check access to isolation points. Photograph the measured shell and keep those images beside the drawing set so no later revision quietly changes the vehicle geometry.
